“… my child wanted to know why he didn’t have any friends. Thanks to an OKMT music therapy project, things have changed for the better”
Although the core of the music therapy work provided by the Otakar Kraus Music Trust are the one on one sessions, over the years we have identified and developed new projects that respond to very specific needs.
It can sometimes be difficult for children with special needs to interact with others. Various conditions can create a barrier for communication, for the development of social skills such as turn taking and sharing and in some cases the lack of focus and behavioural difficulties can become disruptive.
OKMT projects each take the power of music and creativity as a catalyst from which these difficulties can be addressed. They help in self-development and encourage a growth in self-esteem and self-confidence. Through this the children begin to demonstrate greater interaction with each other and a growth in their communication abilities. This is not only seen in the group sessions but is also endorsed through the feedback received from parents who can also see development within the home environment.
